Transnationalisms

2018

Transnationalisms was an exhibition and conference series about bodies, borders, and technology, held in Rijeka, Croatia, and Ljubljana, Slovenia. The exhibition also travelled to London, UK.

I was approached by Aksioma (SI) and Drugo more (HR) in 2017 to help draft the outline for State Machines, a two-year Creative Europe funded programme of exhibitions, events, and publications involving five partner institutions across the continent.

In 2018, I curated an exhibition of seven artists (and artist groups) which opened in Rijeka in March, then travelled to Ljubljana in April. Both openings were accompanied by two nights of public talks from exhibition participants, researchers, and academics, on the theme of the exhibitions. The exhibition was also presented at Furtherfield in London in September of the same year.

Artists who participated included Julian Oliver, Daniela Ortiz, Jeremy Hutchison, Raphaël Fabre, Jonas Staal and the groups Studio Folder (Marco Ferrari & Elisa Pasqual) and They Are Here (Helen Walker & Harun Morrison). Speakers included Atossa Araxia Abrahamian, Heath Bunting, Gordan Bosanac, Aljoša Pužar, Marco Ferrari (from Studio Folder), Denis Maksimov, Mojca Pajnik, Eleanor Saitta, The Peng! Collective, and myself.
