Eclectis

2013

Eclectis was a project with the Waag Society, working with 12-13 year old kids from the Hyperion Academy in North Amsterdam.

For the project, I lead a week of workshops, culminating in a day-long public art show for parents and visitors. We studied the physical infrastructure of the internet, the local government and surveillance, as a way of examining the deeper and less visible ways in which networks, digital and political, function. For the final presentation, the kids developed four games to play with visitors and explain to them what they'd learned: a communication game based on satellites; a code-breaking game based on wi-fi networks; a maze game based on undersea cables; and a hiding game based on CCTV cameras.
